Arizona State offensive coordinator Chip Lindsey is coming back to Auburn.

Lindsey was previously an offensive analyst for Auburn in Gus Malzahn’s first season, 2013, when the Tigers reached the BCS Championship Game. He’s been on the move frequently since then, becoming the offensive coordinator at Southern Miss in 2014, Arizona State in 2015 and now back to Auburn. Malzahn was once a co-offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach for current ASU coach Todd Graham at Tulsa.
In 2016, Arizona State was No. 81 in total offense (390.8 yards per game), No. 40 in scoring offense (33.3 points per game), No. 112 in rushing offense (131.5 yards per game) and No. 39 in passing offense (259.3 yards per game).
Lindsey replaces Rhett Lashlee, who left to take the offensive coordinator position at UConn. Lashlee, who had been Malzahn’s only offensive coordinator at Auburn, explained that he took the UConn opportunity as an opportunity “to run the offense.” Malzahn is expected to be Auburn’s play-caller in 2017.
