Former Auburn athlete/running back Stephen Davis Jr. is transferring to South Carolina, per a report from The State.

Davis, the son of former Auburn running back Stephen Davis, left the Tigers’ football team this winter. He was absent during Auburn’s Sugar Bowl prep for Oklahoma, and Gus Malzahn announced he wasn’t with the team in February.

The 6-foot-4, 215-pound athlete will enroll in South Carolina’s second summer session and will play football, per his father. He will have to sit out the 2017 season due to NCAA transfer rules, and he’ll attend USC on his own dime because Auburn blocked him from being on scholarship at any SEC school for the 2017 season.

In 2016, Davis redshirted at Auburn while rehabbing from an ACL injury suffered during his senior year in high school. Although he was recruited mostly as a running back, he does have a lot of experience on the defensive side of the ball. It’s unclear what position he’ll play at South Carolina.

Exiting high school, the Irmo, South Carolina, native was rated as the country’s No. 20 overall athlete, according to 247Sports Composite Rankings. He was rated as a 3-star prospect and the No. 7 player in the state of South Carolina.
