Alabama’s offense never really recovered when Bo Scarbrough went down early in the third quarter of the National Championship Game against Clemson. After rumbling his way to two first-half touchdowns, the Alabama running back, unfortunately, was unable to return to the game after leaving the game due to injury.
The extent of Scarbrough’s injury was never disclosed last night but according to Chris Low of ESPN, sources have indicated that Scarbrough broke a bone in his lower right leg.
This news is particularly hard to take, as Alabama’s sophomore back has been bitten by the injury bug often in his football career. Scarbrough was only available for four games in 2015 due to a nagging knee injury and has had some unfortunate injury luck in high school, as well.
Following the title game loss, head coach Nick Saban was asked about how big of a loss Scarbrough’s injury was to the Tide. In Saban’s mind, the loss was felt by his offense:
“Not to have him was probably a little bit of a disadvantage for us, but I was pleased with the way the other backs that had an opportunity in the game, Josh Jacobs and Damien Harris played. We always miss a guy that’s Bo Scarbrough, size, especially when you want to run the ball and take some time off the clock.”
