Former Auburn star and NBA great Charles Barkley has written more checks to those in need.
Barkley previously donated millions of dollars to his alma mater, the Wounded Warrior Project and several colleges and universities across the Southeast. Now, AL.com has reported that Barkley is set to donate $100,000 to hurricane relief efforts in Texas, Florida and Puerto Rico and $25,000 to the Las Vegas Victims Fund.
“I just want to help people; I think it’s the right thing to do,” he said on Monday. “I was waiting to assess the full impact of the hurricanes and then Las Vegas happened.”
His $1 million gift to Alabama A&M was reportedly the largest individual gift at the time in the university’s history.
“I just want to help people,” Barkley said, “plain and simple.”
