Report: Derek Barnett’s brother killed by drunk driver in Nashville

Former Tennessee star DE Derek Barnett’s family is in mourning this week, as his older brother, David, has been killed in a car crash.

The crash took place in Nashville on Tuesday morning, per a report from the Tennessean.

Per the report, the hit-and-run accident took place at 3:25 a.m. on Tuesday morning, leaving David Barnett dead:

The brother of Philadelphia Eagles player Derek Barnett died in a hit-and-run crash in Nashville Tuesday morning, a person in the football program with the University of Tennessee confirmed to the USA TODAY Network – Tennessee.

David Barnett, 33, was killed in a two-vehicle crash reported at 3:25 a.m. near the intersection of Burkitt Road and Whittemore Lane in South Nashville, Metro Nashville police reported.

The report states that the driver of the other vehicle, Felipe Castelblanco, was intoxicated and has been charged with vehicular homicide.

Derek Barnett has 2.5 sacks and 10 quarterback hits this year for the Philadelphia Eagles — his second year in the NFL.
