Former Alabama LB VanDarius Cowan has transferred to West Virginia, according to a report by 247Sports.

Citing a source, the site reports that Cowan will fill WVU’s final scholarship in the 2018 recruiting class.

Cowan was dismissed from Alabama in July less than a week after police charged him with misdemeanor assault stemming from an incident at a Tuscaloosa bar in May. He was charged with third-degree assault. Here’s the video footage.

Nick Saban released the following statement at the time.

“VanDarius has been dismissed from the team and is no longer a part of our football program due to a violation of team rules,” Saban said in a statement. “Each of us has a responsibility to represent The University of Alabama in a first-class way, and failure to meet those standards can’t be tolerated. We wish VanDarius the very best in the future.”

The Palm Beach Gardens, Florida, native played in seven games for Alabama making two tackles. Exiting high school, Cowan was rated a 4-star prospect and ranked as the nation’s No. 78 overall player, the No. 4 OLB and the state of Florida’s No. 15 overall prospect in the class of 2017, according to 247Sports Composite Rankings.
