Sunday morning began with news that officials from the University of Michigan were in California to meet with San Francisco 49ers head coach Jim Harbaugh “as soon as possible” about the head coaching vacancy at UM.
By midday, reports began to surface that Harbaugh would indeed become the next coach of the Wolverines.
According to one report from Fox Sports’ Bruce Feldman, citing sources close to the situation, Harbaugh will take over as Michigan’s new head coach after the 49ers close their season with a showdown against Arizona on Sunday afternoon.

Harbaugh coached in San Francisco for four seasons and led the 49ers to three straight NFC championship games from 2011-13. Prior to taking over in San Francisco he spent four years as the head coach of the Stanford Cardinal, posting a record of 29-21 in four seasons including a victory in the Orange Bowl to conclude the 2010 season.
