Karlos Dansby’s new NFL home is only a four-hour drive southwest of Cleveland, but Cincinnati is in a different world as an NFL franchise right now.
According to NFL.com’s Ian Rapoport, the former Auburn linebacker will sign with the Bengals on Tuesday after visiting the team last week.
Dansby spent the last two years with the Browns, who have missed the playoffs each of the last 13 seasons dating back to their last appearance in 2002. In fact, Cleveland has only posted a winning record once over that span (10-6 in 2007).
Meanwhile, the Bengals have made the playoffs each of the last five seasons, boasting a winning mark in each of those years although the franchise still hasn’t won a playoff game since the 1990 season.
Last season, Dansby recorded 108 combined tackles, 27 more than any other player on the Browns. He also had a team-high 3 interceptions, returning two for touchdowns, to go with 2 forced fumbles and 6 pass defenses.
Dansby, a second-round pick in the 2004 NFL Draft, was a First-Team All-America selection as a senior at Auburn in 2003, and he was a semifinalist for the Butkus Award, given to the nation’s top linebacker.
