Lawrence Cager has landed in the NFL with a reported signing to the practice squad of the New York Jets, according to a report from Matt Zenitz of AL.com.

Cager got off to a good start in training camp until swelling in his knee caused him to be sidelined.

Coach Adam Gase said the Jets did not think it was that bad at first and it swelled up overnight, Eric Allen reported.

“The swelling alarmed us where we have to go back and look at it,” he said late last month.

Otherwise, Gase was impressed with Cager, who is coming back from an ankle injury, and missing the NFL Combine.

“He’s a quick study,” Gase said, according to Brian Costello of the New York Post. “He’s obviously a very big body, smooth runner. He really tries to be a detailed route runner, he tries to do the little things right when we’re talking about certain routes versus certain techniques. He’s just got to keep playing. I think when he gets opportunities like he did (Saturday) and he makes those plays, it’s encouraging for us to see because it’s hard to find guys that are that big that run as smooth as he does and are as sharp as he is. So he’s a guy that has obviously come in here with a very big chip on his shoulder, and he wants to prove a lot of people wrong.”

Cager at Georgia played in 9 of 14 games, with 6 starts, and had 33 catches, 476 yards and 4 TDs. He had a huge game against Florida with 7 catches for 132 yards, including a 52-yard TD pass and run. Those receiving yards against the Gators were the most by a Georgia receiver in over 6 years.
