One Big Ten defensive coordinator might have the inside track on the same position at Ole Miss.

247Sports’ Travis Haney reported Tuesday morning that Indiana’s Tom Allen has been mentioned as the potential replacement for recently retired defensive coordinator Dave Wommack. Allen worked under Rebels coach Hugh Freeze at Lambuth, Arkansas State and for three years in Oxford.

Ole Miss beat writer Parrish Alford also mentioned Allen as one of five candidates for the job in a report Monday, indicating he may be the favorite to replace Wommack.

Whoever gets the job will have his work cut out for him. The Rebels finished the regular season ranked 100th nationally in scoring defense with 34 points allowed per game and were notoriously awful against the run.
