According to a report by ESPN’s Chris Low, Georgia special teams coordinator and TEs coach Shane Beamer, the son of former Virginia Tech head coach Frank Beamer, is leaving for a promotion at Oklahoma as the program’s 10th assistant coach.

Beamer will become the Sooners’ assistant head coach for the offense and will help Lincoln Riley prepare the weekly offensive game plan.

Georgia beat Oklahoma in a thrilling double overtime Rose Bowl 54-48 to advance to the College Football Playoff National Championship game against Alabama.

Beamer had been at Georgia since 2016 under Kirby Smart. He’s known as a good coach and a good recruiter. Better known for his time at Virginia Tech under his father (2011-15), Beamer has also coached at three different SEC programs during his career: Mississippi State, South Carolina and UGA.

Riley is one of the nation’s top young offensive minds, and the Sooners will be losing Heisman-winning QB Baker Mayfield. Next up, however, is former Texas A&M QB Kyler Murray.

It is interesting, though, that Riley is using his 10th assistant on offense.
