It appears Georgia defensive coordinator Mel Tucker will stay put in Athens, at least for now.

According to DawgNation.com, Tucker is not currently in the mix to land the open Georgia State job. Over the weekend, it seemed the former Alabama assistant coach might have been one of the favorites for the opening.

The report says Georgia State is looking for a coach with more experience at the college level. That would seemingly rule out Tucker, who has spent the bulk of his career in the NFL ranks.

After finishing this season with the No. 16 defense in the country, it is still possible that Tucker will be considered for other openings.

However, don’t expect him to jump ship for Georgia State.
