Some bad news came out of Georgia’s Wednesday practice: senior WR Lawrence Cager sustained an apparent ankle injury. The news was first reported by Anthony Dasher of Rivals then confirmed by Marc Weiszer of the Athens Banner-Herald.

The key to the reports as of right now is that the severity of Cager’s injury is unknown. The senior leads all Bulldogs pass-catchers in receptions (33) and receiving yards (476). Freshman George Pickens is next in both categories (32 catches, 457 yards) and actually has one more touchdown than Cager (5 TDs to 4).

If Cager is seriously injured, Kirby Smart’s squad should still be fine against a 3-8 Georgia Tech team, but the absence of Cager could hurt in the SEC Championship Game against LSU. Demetris Robertson is Georgia’s No. 3 receiver with 24 catches for 259 yards and 3 TDs.

Smart holds his weekly press conference for local media on Tuesdays. The weekly SEC coaches media teleconference was not held on Wednesday due to “logistics and the Thanksgiving holiday.” Any word from Smart on Cager may not come until Saturday.

The Georgia-Georgia Tech game is scheduled for a noon ET kickoff on Saturday in Atlanta and will air on ABC.
