Kentucky sophomore forward Tai Wynyard hasn’t appeared in a game for the Kentucky men’s basketball team since the calendar rolled over to 2018, and now details are emerging as to why he’s been suspended.

Wynyard, according to the Courier-Journal, attended a party with another person who was carrying a gun, allegedly to “protect” Wynyard.

Kentucky has yet to confirm that Wynyard is missing games because of those allegations, but coach John Calipari commented on the sophomore’s suspension on Monday, saying he doesn’t think Wynyard will play again this year:

“He’s tried to come back twice,” Calipari said. “It hasn’t worked, so I think at this point he’ll be sitting out the rest of the year. I don’t think there’d be any chance at this point. He’ll be out.”

Wynyard, who averaged one point and 1.8 rebounds in eight games this year, was also dealing with a back injury, so it remains to be seen whether Kentucky will address the situation further.

For now, though, it’s not a good look for the sophomore from New Zealand.
