The Kentucky Derby is usually the first weekend in May, and for right now, it’s scheduled for May 2, 2020.

However, due to the outbreak of COVID-19, sporting events are being canceled and rescheduled across the board.

Now, according to 5-time Derby-winning trainer Bob Baffert, the races could be moved to this summer or even as far back as September (via USA TODAY):

“Nobody’s really sure when anything is going to happen,” the trainer said Saturday at Santa Anita Park, according to a release from the park. “Churchill is saying they’re not going to run the Derby without the people there, so I’m hearing maybe June or in September.”

Based on that report, it sounds like the plan is still to hold the Kentucky Derby at some point this year. Now, we’ll just have to see whether it takes place in the summer or is pushed back to the fall.
