Report: Legendary Georgia broadcaster hospitalized after practice mishap

One of the more noteworthy voices in Georgia football suffered a broken hip and a fractured elbow, and underwent surgery on Tuesday at Piedmont Athens Regional Hospital following a practice mishap on Monday.
Loran Smith, who turned 80 in May, is said to be resting comfortably, Dawg Nation reported.
Smith is one of the most well-known personalities around Georgia football, and perhaps first known for being a sideline reporter when play-by-play voice Larry Munson used to ask him, “Whattayagot, Loran?”
Smith is a former executive director of the Georgia Bulldog Clubs of America, an author of multiple books on Georgia athletics, syndicated columnist, assists UGA in development and as a fundraiser and still works on the Georgia Radio Network’s game-day broadcast, contributing to the pregame show.
A native of Wrightsville, Ga., Smith is a past chairman of the State of Georgia Sports Hall of Fame and was elected to the Hall of Fame in 1997.
