Veteran NFL special teams coach Bobby April is reportedly coming back to the bayou to work with Ed Orgeron, according to a report by Football Scoop. April, a New Orleans area native, has coached special teams in the past for numerous NFL teams, most recently the Tennessee Titans.

One of the first shakeups that followed Oregon landing the full-time head coaching position was the announcement of the team parting ways with special teams coach Bradley Dale Peveto, who had coached for Les Miles from 2005-08 and returned to LSU in 2014. Peveto was also a Texas recruiter for the Tigers.

Update:

247Sports reporter Shea Dixon and The Advocate’s Ross Dellenger are reporting that April will only be a consultant for the Tigers during Citrus Bowl prep, and has not been hired as the full-time special teams assistant as Football Scoop had reported.

LSU formally announced April as a Special Teams Analyst on Thursday.

“We are very fortunate to have Coach April join our staff,” Orgeron said in a school release. “He is one of the best special teams coaches in the history of football and our players will benefit tremendously because of Coach April’s knowledge of the game.

“Coach April is a great man and a true Louisianan. He loves Louisiana and from the first time we talked he said he wanted to help his state. It means everything to us to have great people who can be a part of our program like Coach April.”
