Report: LSU offers ‘enhanced contract’ to defensive coordinator Dave Aranda
With the head coaching search at LSU officially over following Ed Orgeron shedding the interim tag from his title, the next step — and perhaps the most important step — in determining the ultimate success or failure of Coach O’s tenure in Baton Rouge is hiring the right coaching staff around him.
During his introductory press conference Saturday, Orgeron expressed not only his desire, but his belief, that current defensive coordinator Dave Aranda would be returning to LSU as a member of his first staff with the Tigers. If the reputable coaching news website Football Scoop is accurate, Orgeron’s faith may soon be rewarded.
According to sources of the Football Scoop, LSU has offered Aranda “an enhanced contract” to remain on Orgeron’s staff, with the school optimistic that Aranda will agree to the new contract shortly.
In his first season with Tigers, Aranda’s defense only gave up more than 21 points in one game – last week at Texas A&M. LSU finished the season with an average of only 16.4 points allowed per game as well as the No. 2 ranked rushing defense and the No. 3 ranked overall defense in the SEC.
Last January, LSU hired Aranda from Wisconsin and signed him to a three-year deal. Aranda’s contract called for him to make $1.3 million dollars in 2016.
