Earlier this week, it was reported that a win over Alabama could make interim coach Ed Orgeron the top candidate for the full-time head coaching job at LSU.

According to Fox Sports’ Bruce Feldman, Orgeron might not even need to beat the Crimson Tide to stay on as head coach.

“Word is, Orgeron has really impressed LSU’s power brokers with how he has managed the program on a day-to-day basis,” Feldman writes, “both externally but more importantly internally through a turbulent situation.”

Even with a loss on Saturday to Alabama, Orgeron could still finish strong. The Tigers final three games are at Arkansas, No. 11 Florida at home and at No. 4 Texas A&M. A road victory over the Hogs and two wins over ranked teams would be an impressive end to a 2016 season that got off to a rough start for the Tigers. LSU was 2-2 when it dismissed coach Les Miles and Orgeron has improved the Bayou Bengals’ record to 5-2.
