Shortly after landing a quarterback out of the transfer portal, Miami is reportedly losing its starting quarterback to the portal.

Multiple outlets are reporting that Jarren Williams has entered his name into the NCAA’s transfer portal. Entering the portal does not equal a departure, but the Miami Herald is reporting it has confirmed Williams will be leaving the Hurricanes.

A former 4-star recruit in the class of 2018, Williams made 10 starts for UM as a redshirt freshman in the 2019 season. He finished the season 169-for-276 (61.2 percent completion percentage) for 2,187 passing yards, 19 touchdowns and 7 interceptions.

Coming out of Central Gwinnett, the Georgia native received 28 scholarship offers. He committed to Kentucky on May 15, 2017, but was also recruited by Alabama, Ohio State and others before eventually settling on Miami.

Williams’ decision comes shortly after Miami landed Houston transfer D’Eriq King. A recent report on culture problems at Miami mentioned Williams missing practice and displaying “maturity issues.” Despite that, the report stated the Hurricanes coaching staff was willing to move forward with Williams in the quarterback room. A fresh start, however, is probably best for everyone involved.
