Report: Miami WR’s, potential first-round pick, career over following injury

No. 17 Miami beat in-state ACC rival Florida State 28-27 on Saturday, but the Hurricanes might not feel like celebrating.
The Miami Herald is reporting that UM junior receiver Ahmmon Richards has suffered a career-ending neck injury. Career-ending, as opposed to simply season-ending, is an important distinction as Richards had been projected as a potential first-round NFL draft pick.
The injury did not occur in the FSU game, but Saturday is when the Miami Herald reporters heard from their source on the matter. The article, with a byline of Barry Jackson and Susan Miller Degnan, states that Richards has been out since UM played LSU in Week 1. Miami’s communications staff had told reporters Richards was out with a bone bruise in his knee.
The Herald article states a UM spokesman would not comment on the report, but Richards has been active on social media.
