New Mississippi State coach Joe Moorhead has done a good job of filling out his coaching staff so far, but he still has an opening at offensive coordinator.

However, that spot could soon be filled, as it is being reported that the Bulldogs are targeting a current NFL assistant coach for the job.

According to FootballScoop.com, Moorhead is holding onto the OC spot for Green Bay Packers’ WR coach Luke Getsy:

Source tells FootballScoop Joe Moorhead has reserved the offensive coordinator title for Green Bay Packers receivers coach Luke Getsy. The Packers complete their season this weekend at Detroit. Getsy played quarterback for Moorhead at Akron back in the mid-2000s then served as a grad assistant with him thereafter at Akron as well. Getsy has served on the Packers staff since 2014. He coached receivers at Western Michigan in 2013 and served as offensive coordinator at IUP 2011 & 2012. At Mississippi State, Getsy would also have responsibility for the receivers.

Getsy was Moorhead’s quarterback at Akron back in the mid-2000s, according to the report, so clearly the new Mississippi State coach is comfortable with him.

Whether or not the deal gets finalized remains to be seen, but it seems as if Moorhead is nearing a hire for his new staff in Starkville.
