A knee injury has sent former Georgia wide receiver Malcolm Mitchell to the injured reserve, Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network reported. That means he will be out for at least eight weeks.

Mitchell has battled a right knee injury for much of the preseason, which has caused him to miss some practices and games. The Mitchell injury was a blow to a Patriots’ receiving corps that had already lost Julian Edelman to a season-ending injury.

Mitchell caught six passes for 70 yards for New England in its Super Bowl win over the Atlanta Falcons. He appeared in 14 games, including six starts, for the Patriots last season, and had 32 catches for 401 yards and four touchdowns. Mitchell was picked in the fourth round of the NFL Draft.

Among the things Mitchell is most known for is joining an all-female book club while at Georgia. He also wrote a children’s book, “The Magician’s Hat.”
