A USC assistant coach is reportedly making the move from LA to Oxford.
Bruce Feldman of FOX Sports and The Athletic is reporting that Trojans tight ends coach John David Baker is expected to join Lane Kiffin’s Ole Miss staff as the Rebels’ passing game coordinator and tight ends coach.
Baker, who turned 30 during the 2020 season, played college football as a quarterback for 4 seasons (2010-13) at Abilene Christian and then for the Amarillo Venom indoor football team in 2014 (Lone Star Football League) and 2015 (Champions Indoor Football). He first got into coaching in 2014 as a graduate assistant at his alma mater, a position he held through the 2015 season.
Baker was an offensive quality control coach for three seasons at North Texas (2016-18) before heading to USC as an Offensive Quality Control Analyst for the 2019 season. Ahead of the 2020 season, Baker was promoted to the on-field position of USC’s tight ends coach.
Baker would be replacing Joe Jon Finley, who recently left for Oklahoma.
