The Ole Miss offensive backfield has reportedly taken a hit as redshirt junior Jordan Wilkins has been ruled academically ineligible. Wilkins made two starts for the Rebels and played in all 12 games for the school in 2015. Wilkins was listed as Ole Miss’ co-starter exiting spring football.

According to David Johnson of Rebels247Sports, the issue stems from an academic concern.

Late Wednesday night in what appears to be in reference to Wilkins’ situation, Ole Miss receiver Quincy Adeboyejo tweeted out this message:

With Wilkins likely lost before the season ever began for the Rebels, look for expectations to rise for redshirt freshman running back Eric Swinney. A former touted recruit, Swinney was turning heads last fall before a stress fracture caused him to miss all of last season. Now a year removed from the injury, Swinney looks poised to finally realize his potential in Oxford.
