Sunday’s New England-Kansas City NFL game was billed as a showdown of former MVPs Cam Newton and Patrick Mahomes. Unfortunately, the showdown between the Patriots and the defending Super Bowl champs has lost some of its star power as Newton has tested positive for coronavirus.
The Patriots are 2-1 with Newton as starting quarterback. The former Auburn standout is 62-of-91 passing for 714 yards, 2 touchdowns and 2 interceptions through three games. Newton has also rushed 35 times for 149 yards and 4 touchdowns.
NFL Media’s Ian Rapoport had the news of Newton being added to the COVID-19/reserve list with ESPN’s Adam Schefter adding that it is the result of a positive test. The Patriots released a statement that doesn’t name Newton in response to the reports.
Patriots QB Cam Newton is being added to the COVID-19/reserve list, per me and @TomPelissero. He’s out for Sunday.
