It appears Mike Norvell may be staying with Memphis.
Norvell is having a remarkable season as the head coach of the Tigers. Memphis is currently 10-1 on the season with a game remaining against UCF in the American Athletic Conference Championship. UCF is responsible for Memphis’ one loss this season.
Norvell has led the Tigers to a top 25 ranking and has become one of the names mentioned around various circles as a potential fit for a number of head coaching jobs across the country and throughout the SEC.
However, according to one Saturday story, it appears Norvell and Memphis are working on a deal that would keep the coach with the Tigers. Mark Giannotto with Commercial Appeal shared the story:
The University of Memphis and football coach Mike Norvell are in negotiations about a new contract extension, athletic director Tom Bowen confirmed before Saturday’s win over East Carolina to close the regular season. Bowen said he and Norvell have been discussing a new deal since the team’s game against UCLA on Sept. 16 and that he expects Norvell to have a new contract heading into next season.
Keeping Norvell at Memphis would be big news for the Tigers. He has produced well this season and looks to be a coach that will only continue to perform moving forward.
