With the 2020-21 college basketball season starting in just under a month, the South Carolina Gamecocks have been dealt some bad news.

According to a report on Wednesday, coach Frank Martin’s squad is losing a freshman just a couple of weeks before the season starts.

Per the report, freshman forward Patrick Iriel has withdrawn from school, and that news has reportedly been confirmed by a South Carolina spokesperson:

Iriel was a member of Martin’s 2020 recruiting class. Per the 247Sports composite rankings, he was the No. 55 center in the class of 2020 and the No. 3 overall recruit from the state of South Carolina.

Iriel is a native of Columbia, South Carolina. Where he ends up next remains to be seen.
