Report: Tennessee names new starting QB for Georgia game

Heading into its biggest challenge so far, Tennessee appears to be making a change at quarterback.

ESPN insider Chris Low is reporting that true freshman Brian Maurer at quarterback on Saturday against No. 3 Georgia, replacing veteran incumbent starter Jarrett Guarantano.

Maurer was a 3-star recruit on the 247Sports Composite as a pro-style quarterback prospect in the class of 2019. The Ocala, Florida native chose Tennessee over 19 other offers.

Maurer has appeared in two games so far. He was 0-for-2 passing against UT Chattanooga and 4-of-11 for 44 yards with an interception against Florida. He has run the ball seven times for 17 yards over his two appearances.

Guarantano was 60-of-93 passing for 736 yards with 7 touchdowns and 4 interceptions in the first four games. His 17 total rushes have gone for -4 yards, a number which includes sacks.

Tennessee is 1-3 heading into the Georgia game. The Volunteers were off in Week 5.
