Tennessee basketball’s nonconference schedule for the 2019-20 season is starting to take shape. CBS Sports college basketball insider Jon Rothstein reports that a UT vs. Florida State matchup has been set for the 2019 Emerald Coast Classic.
The Emerald Coast Classic is an eight-team tournament (two four-team fields) in Destin, Florida played over Thanksgiving-weekend. Purdue and VCU are the other two teams in the Tennessee-FSU field. The first round games will be played on Nov. 28 with the two winners and two losers then facing off Nov. 29. Many Tennessee fans would obviously love to get revenge against Purdue.
UT’s other known out-of-conference games so far are Washington (Nov. 16 in Toronto), Memphis (Dec. 14, home), Cincinnati (Dec. 18, away) and Wisconsin (Dec. 28, home). The Volunteers have not yet learned their opponent for the annual SEC-Big 12 Challenge.
Rick Barnes returns for a fifth season on Rocky Top after taking Tennessee to the Sweet Sixteen in March. The 2019-20 squad has to replace high-profile departures Admiral Schofield, Grant Williams and Jordan Bone.
