Report: Texas learns extent of QB Sam Ehlinger’s shoulder injury

A top 10 team that lost its starting quarterback on Saturday got some relatively good news ahead of its bye week.
Texas QB Sam Ehlinger was diagnosed with a Grade 1 shoulder sprain with minimal damage, according to a report from Anwar Richardson of OrangeBloods.com. The Longhorns, who are ranked No. 7 in this week’s Associated Press poll, have a bye this week before they play Oklahoma State on Oct. 27.
Texas outlasted Baylor on Saturday, 23-17, but not before backup Shane Buechele replaced Ehlinger after he left the game with a bleeding hand. Coach Tom Herman said after the game that Ehlinger had an AC sprain to his throwing shoulder following the first-half injury, and an MRI would reveal if there was ligament damage. Ehlinger finished the game out of uniform and in street clothes.
One-loss Texas appears to be the Big 12 team with the best chance to make the College Football Playoff, so Ehlinger’s injury is worth monitoring.
Texas QB Sam Ehlinger has a Grade 1 shoulder sprain and minimal damage, according to my sources. Ehlinger will rest and rehab this week. Goal is to have him throwing by the end of the week. If all goes well, he will play against Oklahoma State on October 27. Texas is on a bye.
