Many mock drafts have former Ole Miss star receiver Laquon Treadwell as the first receiver off the board despite the questions surrounding his speed.
That may be why Treadwell isn’t so quick to answer them.
A source told the Football Guys’ Scott Bischoff on Monday that Treadwell has elected not to run the 40-yard dash at the NFL Scouting Combine.
That news was later confirmed when Treadwell told College Football 24/7 of that decision. As speculated in our previous report, Treadwell will instead run at Ole Miss’ Pro Day on March 28.
“I’ve only had a week and a half here (in Miami) and want to wait ’til I’m at our facilities,” said Treadwell, who added that his goal is to run “in the 4.4s or 4.5s.”
Many believe Treadwell, whose speed has been a target of criticism among NFL scouts, can significantly help his draft stock if he were to perform well in the 40-yard dash.
The latest mock drafts for ESPN and CBS Sports still have the 6-foot-2, 210-pounder as the first receiver off the board, but taking that monkey off his back may solidify him as a top 10 overall pick.
Keep in mind, NFL scouts have been burned several times in the past by overvaluing speed.
