Two Florida International football players were shot in a drive-by on Thursday afternoon, according to a report by the Miami Herald.

Junior running back Anthony Jones and freshman offensive lineman Mershawn Miller were visiting friends in Opa-locka, Fla., when they were shot in a drive-by, per the police officers who spoke with the Miami Herald. Both players were transported to the Ryder Trauma Center at Jackson Memorial Hospital.

The shooting reportedly happened around 3 p.m. Jones was shot in the face and back, and Miller was shot in the arm, according to the report.

“Somebody drove by and starting shooting from a vehicle,” Opa-locka police chief James Dobson told the Miami Herald.

Jones missed the 2017 season with a knee injury. He rushed for 88 yards and two touchdowns in FIU’s season-opening loss to Indiana last weekend. Miller made his Panthers debut in that game after sitting out as a redshirt last year.
