It was announced just a week ago that FOX Sports would be eliminating its written staff to invest in the more-lucrative video content.

College football stalwarts Stewart Mandel and Bruce Feldman were left without a home for their popular written content, and it sent a shiver down to the rest of college football media’s spines.

At the time, President of National Networks for FOX Sports, Jamie Horowitz, wrote in a memo about the shift.

“Creating compelling sports video content is what we do best at FOX Sports,” Jamie Horowitz, who oversaw the FOX Sports cable networks and online operations. “We will be shifting our resources and business model away from written content and instead focus on our fans’ growing appetite for premium video across all platforms.”

And now, according to Sports Business Journal’s John Ourand, Horowitz is out at FOX.

Prior to landing at FOX, Horowitz held positions at NBC and ESPN, and it’s unclear why Horowitz is out at FOX.

Online written content is obviously changing, but the decision to abandon written content in favor of video content seems like a money grab. The problem is, of course, that video content has higher advertising dollars when compared to written content. And although younger audiences like video content, written content will always hold its place, no matter the place and time.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Horowitz has hired powerhouse litigator Patty Glaser to represent him, and it seems he has taken issue with his abrupt departure.
