Report: Workout video featuring John Franklin III responsible for NCAA secondary violation
In the latest example of needless rules the NCAA loves to enforce, active student-athletes cannot be featured in promotional content found on YouTube.
Auburn had to learn that the hard way was the school turned itself into the NCAA for a secondary violation after training video of former Tiger receiver John Franklin III surfaced online training for something called The Fit Factory. James Crepea of AL.com was the first to report this news.
At the request of Franklin and Auburn, the video was removed from YouTube but the violation still had to be reported by the school.
Franklin was featured on the original season of Netflix documentary “Last Chance U,” which chronicled his team at East Mississippi Community College. Franklin was the backup QB for EMCC on the show but a single performance apparently caught the attention of Auburn’s staff and the Tigers signed him as a coveted JUCO quarterback prospect.
He never factored into the rotation at quarterback at Auburn and was quickly moved to receiver. He later transferred from the program and decided to play for Lane Kiffin’s FAU team.
Considering the lack of impact Franklin ultimately had at Auburn, this minor violation may prove to be his lasting legacy at the school.
