Sad news has hit the Florida Gators as reports came out Monday that former RB Wendell “Mon” Williams has passed away.

Former Gators teammate and fellow RB Emmanuel Moody shared an Instagram post with the heartbreaking news.

Williams played with Florida from 2006-2008 and suffered a torn ACL in 2007. He showed promise as a true freshman, but Williams never looked the same after his injury. Williams transferred to Eastern Illinois where he posted a career best 870 yards and 9 TDs in 2009.

Moody referred to Williams as “a good man with a heart of gold and a great friend.” Here is Moody’s post remembering Williams:

Texas Longhorns RB coach Stan Drayton also took to Twitter to offer his condolences:

Our thoughts and prayers go out to Williams and his family.
