Rhett Lashlee responds to Miami accusation that SMU was mimicking snap counts

Rhett Lashlee and SMU picked up their biggest win of the season on Saturday, knocking off No. 10 Miami 26-20 in overtime.
The Mustangs were a College Football Playoff team in 2024, putting together an 11-3 record that included an ACC Championship Game berth. After a 2-2 start to the 2025 season, though, they’ve won four of their last five, including Week 10’s victory over the Hurricanes.
According to the Sun-Sentinel, though, Miami head coach Mario Cristobal accused the Mustangs of mimicking Miami’s snap counts throughout the night.
“We tried to report when our cadence is being mimicked, but that didn’t get any traction. And it is what it is — that happens in football, so no excuses,” Cristobal said.
Those postgame comments made their way to Rhett Lashlee, who responded with a post on X on Sunday afternoon:
The Mustangs are well out of the running for an at-large Playoff spot. Their only possible path is winning an ACC championship, but even that won’t guarantee them a berth in the 12-team field.
After Saturday’s win, though, SMU is still in the hunt to get to Charlotte as it’s now 4-1 in conference play. That said, those chances are slim as it will need to run the table against Boston College, Louisville, and Cal while getting plenty of help down the stretch.
