Tennessee and Vanderbilt are basketball rivals, but some things are bigger than competing on the hardwood. Volunteers head coach Rick Barnes shared that when UT launched a GoFundMe for Zakai Zeigler, Commodores head coach Jerry Stackhouse reached out to offer to help.

Zeigler’s family’s home in Queens, New York, was recently destroyed in a house fire. Zeigler’s mother is raising Zakai’s 4-year-old nephew with special needs, and all of the accessibility equipment was also destroyed in the home. Tennessee launched GoFundMe to raise money for Zeigler’s family. The initial goal of $50,000 was reached in just 35 minutes.
On Friday, the GoFundMe page stopped accepting new donations. In an incredible showing of generosity led by Vols fans, the fund raised $363,007 over 5,600 donations.
