UCLA finally broke through on Saturday with its first victory of the season in a 42-37 win against No. 7 Penn State.
It was a masterful game of offensive play calling for assistant head coach Jerry Neuheisel and also 180-degree moment for the UCLA alum as he was carried off the field on Saturday. Neuheisel was named interim offensive coordinator just a few days ago.
Back in 2014, Neuheisel was carried off the field after coming in to replace the injured starting quarterback in 2014 when UCLA beat Texas. Eleven years later, the 33-year-old Neuheisel found himself lifted up once again and his dad was ecstatic.
Former UCLA head coach Rick Neuheisel, now an analyst for CBS Sports, had an emotional reaction in the aftermath.
“Get him down, get him down! Yeah!,” Neuheisel said while working in the CBS Sports studios.
What an awesome moment for both father and son.
This is the first top-10 win for UCLA since beating Texas in 2010. Jerry Neuheisel began his coaching career as an assistant at Texas A&M in 2017 before returning to UCLA the next season as he’s climbed the ranks.
UCLA will try to start a winning streak and get its first road win of the season when they square off with host Michigan State next weekend.
