St. John’s basketball head coach Rick Pitino is the latest to call out the college football calendar.

Lane Kiffin‘s departure from Ole Miss to LSU has brought attention to how broken the college football calendar is. Kiffin, who had been the head coach of Ole Miss all year, will not finish the season with the Rebels as they embark on a quest to capture a National Championship. Instead, defensive coordinator Pete Golding will be the head coach for the Rebels through the rest of the year.

Pitino called out the college football calendar in his latest tweet:

The current problem with the college football calendar is that it crosses over semesters. With the season ending in mid-January, students are forced to transfer in the middle of the season because of the school schedule.

College basketball does not have this same problem because its season doesn’t cross over semesters.

Kiffin did state that he asked Ole Miss to let him coach the rest of the season, but the university denied his request. Kiffin claimed that he and the team asked Ole Miss athletic director Keith Carter to allow him to continue coaching through the College Football Playoff, but Carter decided against it.
