Rick Pitino has made so many enemies over the years that old enemies have apparently developed into friends for the new Iona coach.
Yes, you read that correctly, if you missed the news, Iona recently hired Pitino to be the program’s new head coach following the scandal at Louisville that cost him his job.
Despite having longer ties to Louisville than any of his other coaching positions, which include Hawaii, Boston, Providence, Kentucky and the Boston Celtics, Louisville is the one school Pitino has no interest in seeing anytime soon.
During a recent appearance on “The Dan Patrick Show,” Pitino was asked if he would consider scheduling his former school by the show’s host:
Patrick: “Are you going to schedule Louisville?”
Pitino: “No.”
(Patrick starts laughing.)
Pitino: “How quick was that answer? I may schedule, if John, I spoke to Cal yesterday, he was nice enough to call me. I would love to schedule Kentucky in (Madson Square) Garden in the Jimmy V Classic. I think that would be a great draw and that would be exciting to see. I hope John would entertain that.”
If nothing else, at least we have Rick Pitino to keep us entertained as he attempts to make yet another college comeback.
