Riley Leonard and Notre Dame took their frustrations out on Purdue a week after an upset loss to Northern Illinois, cruising to a 66-7 win in West Lafayette.
Leonard only played through the 1st half, but the Fighting Irish quarterback had an explosive offensive outing. He was 11-of-16 for 112 yards passing, but had 11 carries for 100 yards and 3 touchdowns before Steve Angeli took over. Purdue, as a team, had 162 yards of total offense the entire day.
With the Irish needing to bounce back after falling to NIU a week ago, they did just that against the Boilermakers. After the game, Leonard was asked by NBC’s Jenny Dell the last time he’s had that much fun on the football field.
“It wasn’t last week. Probably 2 weeks ago,” he quipped.
Needless to say, the Irish would rather Saturday’s version of Leonard is the norm the rest of the way if they’re able to get themselves back in the running for an at-large bid in the College Football Playoff. They host Miami (Ohio) in Week 4.
