Roman Harper assesses South Carolina’s offense ahead of Tennessee game

SEC Network analyst Roman Harper sees a lot of potential out of South Carolina’s offense when they are at full health.
But they haven’t been healthy for several weeks and while special teams and the defense has done its best to keep the Gamecocks afloat. South Carolina (6-4, 3-4) has lost two of three and generated just 16 total points with and average of 220 yards of total offense in those two games.
Harper said that the offense has potential, but might not reach its potential this year.
“What wins for you this year doesn’t always win for you the next year,” Harper said. “I think understanding who South Cariolina wants to be long term is the bigger and more important question — a run-first team that’s really good on special teams that can beat you when they play really well in all three phases of the game.”
“That’s what Shane Beamer wants them to be.”

With No. 5 Tennessee and No. 9 Clemson on the schedule, the Gameocks will have to make something happen on offense to stay competitive.
Quarterback Spencer Rattler was one of the nation’s high profile transfers, but he’s thrown for just 1,982 yards for eight touchdowns and nine interceptions. His 44.8 QBR rating is 99th in the nation.
