It will be Ash’s first head coaching job, after 17 years as an assistant coach.
Ash has been Ohio State’s defensive coordinator for the past two years, and helped the Buckeyes win the national championship last year. He was Arkansas’ defensive coordinator in 2013, after following Bret Bielema to Fayetteville. Ash had been Bielema’s defensive coordinator at Wisconsin from 2010-12.
Ash has also been an assistant coach at San Diego State, Iowa State and Drake.
At Rutgers, he will replace Kyle Flood. Flood was fired last weekend after a 4–8 season that included several player arrests and a three-game suspension for Flood for improperly contacting a professor about a player’s grade.
