The firing of former LSU head coach Brian Kelly last weekend has quickly ballooned into one of the wildest stories college football has seen in recent years, and arguably the wildest part of the entire saga has been the involvement of Louisiana Gov. Jeff Landry.
Landry is reportedly a central figure in the push that led to Kelly being fired, and he made further headlines on Wednesday by publicly stating that current LSU AD Scott Woodward would have no part in hiring the next head coach of the Tigers’ football program.
These comments naturally stirred up all sorts of reactions from fans and analysts alike, including ESPN analyst and former LSU defensive back Ryan Clark, who blasted Landry Thursday morning on First Take.
“Second most ridiculous thing he said this week. The first was standing on campus and saying he wanted to put a statue of somebody (Charlie Kirk) that doesn’t represent the people of Louisiana,” Clark said. “… To me, this is just another example of politicians sticking their noses into things they don’t know about. You don’t know about football. There is enough going on in the state of Louisiana… I don’t need to see you tweeting on Saturday night about what’s going on in Tiger Stadium.”
Politics aside, there’s no denying that Landry’s involvement in this entire saga has been out of the norm, but whether or not it ends up having an impact on who the next coach ends up being at LSU remains to be seen.
