South Carolina could not have asked for a better start to the Ryan Hilinski era.

While it’s fair to question the opposing defense, the Gamecocks are playing Charleston Southern on Saturday, the game isn’t even over and Will Muschamp’s squad has already set the new South Carolina record for most total offensive yards in a single game with 700 total yards.

Hilinski has accounted for 286 of those yards, 282 in the air while completing 24 of 30 passes with three total touchdowns in the contest, while the Gamecocks have rushed for 418 yards thus far in the game.

A South Carolina team has never accounted for 700 yards of total offense and a Will Muschamp-coached team has never accounted for this many yards.

The competition will get significantly tougher next week with Alabama returning to Columbia for the first time since the 2010 upset but at least Gamecock fans have a reason for some optimism after the tough start to the season.
