Ryan Tannehill’s status for the Tennessee Titans’ Week 8 game against the Houston Texans on Sunday was in question with the quarterback suffering a sprained ankle and battling an illness.
On Saturday, NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero reported that Tannehill has been ruled out of the contest, meaning that rookie Malik Willis will get his first NFL start.
Tannehill has thrown for 1,097 yards, 6 touchdowns, and 3 interceptions so far this season. The former Texas A&M wide receiver-turned-signal caller exited in the 4th quarter of the Titans’ game against the Indianapolis Colts in Week 7, giving way to Willis.
Willis, a 3rd-round pick for the Titans out of Liberty in the 2022 NFL Draft, played 2 seasons for Auburn before transferring to the Flames before the 2019 campaign. He threw for 2,857 yards, 27 touchdowns, and 12 interceptions in 2021, adding 13 touchdowns and 878 yards on the ground.
Kickoff between the Titans and Texans from NRG Stadium is set for 4:05 p.m. ET.
