Thin on backfield depth, Alabama needs all the manpower it can get when SEC play kicks into high gear next month.

Nick Saban said Thursday that injured freshman running Bo Scarbrough, who was suspended the first four games of the season for what’s been described as ‘an NCAA issue’, likely would not have played even if he was eligible due to an ACL injury suffered during spring practice.

Scarbrough will be eligible to play in his first game back at Georgia on Oct. 3. Saban believes he will be an instant contributor in multiple areas.

“He’s a big, strong, physical guy,” Saban said during his weekly radio show, according to AL.com. “We don’t have a lot of depth at running back, so I think he can definitely contribute at that position. But I also think Bo would be a great special teams player for us.”

The five-star signee was third on the depth chart behind Derrick Henry and Kenyan Drake entering spring practice, but since has been replaced by another five-star ballcarrier, Damien Harris.

At 6-foot-2, 235 pounds, Scarbrough adds another physical dynamic to Alabama’s offense.
