Sam Pittman and Arkansas have a big challenge this weekend as they take on Alabama.
The Razorbacks are looking for a big upset after losing 4-straight games, but it won’t be an easy task. Alabama is coming off a big win over Texas A&M and isn’t looking to slow down.
Ahead of Saturday’s matchup, Pittman broke down what makes Alabama’s defense so strong this season.
“I think they’re very good, I think they compare very well,” Pittman said during the SEC coaches teleconference. “They have, in my opinion, great defensive ends, and they’re a problem. It’s a problem if somebody has one that can wreck your game plan, let alone 3, maybe 4. Very, very big, physical inside as well.”
Pittman had high praise for Alabama’s linebackers specifically.
“I love their linebacker group, obviously Kool-Aid is one of the best players in the league, and Caleb Downs,” Pittman said. “You just keep going … they are really talented, as well-coached on defense as anybody in the league, anybody in the country and they play with passion and very physical.”
Pittman believes that Alabama’s defense this season compares well to years past. Perhaps seeing a familiar defense will be beneficial for Arkansas, but Pittman knows how talented this year’s defense is.
“I would say they match up with a lot of teams that coach has had, you’d have to ask him,” Pittman said. “I don’t want to speak for him. But I would say they match up, at least on tape, well with defenses he’s had in the past.”
Alabama and Arkansas will face off at noon ET on Saturday.
