Sam Pittman and the Arkansas Razorbacks needed a change. Offensive coordinator Dan Enos was fired following last week’s 7-3 loss to Mississippi State.

Kenny Guiton, Arkansas’s former WR coach and a former Ohio State QB, was promoted to interim OC following Enos’ firing. And with Guiton moving out, Pittman promoted Derek Kief to WRs coach.

During the SEC’s weekly teleconference Wednesday, Pittman explained why he went with Kief and how he expects him to fit into his new role:

“He’s a mature guy,” Pittman said. “Has a good relationship with the kids, knows the offense, went through the offense, knows the terminology. I think anytime you make a change, I think during the season, I think the biggest thing is the terminology the same for the kids, do we have coaches that can coach that terminology, what we’re trying to get done, so they’re able to play fast and things of that nature. He played in that system and he also has obviously been an analyst in that system. So he was an easy choice regarding that.”

Kief has previous experience coaching WRs at Towson and is a former Alabama WR. He worked with Arkansas’ quality control team.

The Razorbacks get a bye week then will attempt to snap a 6-game losing streak with Nov. 4’s matchup at Florida.
